We're always being asked for our favorites so here's a page we hope to update regularly as we come across new favorites from year to year. (You know the old adage that my favorite rose is the one that is blooming at the moment, right?) We've listed them by color, fragrance and our Top 12, but you can also run a simple "find" using your browser on the Availability List to get all of the possibilities for each variety that we carry.

Margaret
Merrill (Harkness 1977) In
this photo the beautiful white high-centered flower has already fully
opened, releasing its strong citrus and spice fragrance. 4 x 3
ft. Z6
Pope John Paul II
JACsegra 2008 - PPAF Pure white, very fragrant, disease
resistant. We saw this one in the J&P gardens in Medford,
Oregon, and it really IS as good as they say it is. It's a rare
thing to have a healthy, white and fragrant Hybrid Tea. 5 x 3 ft Z6
Sally Holmes (Holmes 1976)
Shrub/Hybrid
Musk.
This five-petal
rose starts as a light peach bud then opens to ivory-white (pinker in
cooler climates). Flowers are borne
in trusses that practically cover the plant when in full bloom. With
some training it can be used as a
short climber looking great against a fence. Shade tolerant and hardy
to zone 5 or 6. 6+ x 4 ft.

Sombreuil
(date unknown) Large-flowered Climber. A white/ivory colored rose with
slightly
deeper
coloring in the center. Flowers are full of petals and a delicious
fragrance. Foliage is clean and disease
resistant. Every time it blooms Tracy exclaims, "I have trouble finding
anything wrong with this rose!"
The controversy seems settled that this is not "the" Mlle. de Sombreuil
of
1850, but the question of its origin and the similarities with
something introduced in 1959 as 'Colonial White' still keep this
cultivar's true history in the dark. No matter what, as Tracy
says,
it's a must-have climber with old-fashioned
form and fragrance. 10 ft. Hardy to zone 5 or 6.
Julia
Child (Carruth 2006 PPAF)
If you ever enjoyed any of Julia Child's cooking shows you know how
much she loved butter. I can actually hear her telling Jacques
Pepin "more butter" in her distinctive voice. I think it's
wonderful that she picked out this butter yellow rose to bear her
name. The fragrance is said to be strong licorice and spice.
Great disease resistance too. AARS winner 2006. 3 x 3 ft.
Lemon Zest
JACsalps
PP13342 Shrub Yellow with strong lemon fragrance, disease resistant,
Zary 2000, 3+ x 3 ft Z5/6
Mellow
Yellow™
(WEKosomit) (Carruth 2002 PP14401)
For those waiting for a clear, consistent, disease resistant, fragrant,
yellow HT to grace your yard - the wait is over! 4+ x 3 ft.
Charles
Austin (AUSfather) (Austin 1973)
Large, full, very fragrant,
apricot-fading-to
yellow blooms on arching and plentiful mid-green foliage. This tall
shrub is a "must-have" for apricot
rose lovers. Tolerates hard pruning between bloom cycles. Can also be
trained as a climber or pillar
rose, or pegged into arching canes. 8+ x 5 ft. Hardy to zone 4 or 5.
Norwich Castle (1979)
An orange to apricot hybrid-tea shaped bud
packed with petals opening ruffled. Moderate scent and one of the
earliest to bloom with continuous
flushes all season. A good cutting flower and a useful bush for bedding
or hedge plantings.Hard to find anymore, but definitely garden worthy.
Tolerant of
poor soil. 3+ x 2 ft. Hardy to zone 6.>
Sunstruck™ (WEKsunvoye)
(Carruth 2006 PPAF)
Huge round buds open to large flowers with good form in deep yellow
gold blushed and bordered with apricot orange. Flip the petals
over to be "struck" with the yellow fan pattern on the back.
Fragrant flowers with long stems. Most intense in cooler
temps. 4 x 3 ft. Child of Sunset Celebration, listed above.
Miami Moon™
This unusual shade of shrimp pink bedecks these ruffled flowers on a
compact bushy plant. The color deepens in moderate temperatures.
Clean glossy leaves. 2+ x 2+ ft.
Remember
Me (Cocker 1984) Botanica says this is probably the
deepest copper colored rose on the
market to date and also includes a subtle yellow blend. Somewhat
spreading in growth, 3 x 3 ft.
Brilliant Pink
Iceberg PRObril PP12645 Floribunda, pink blend, disease
resistant,
Weatherly 1995, sport of Pink Iceberg. It's just impossible to go
wrong with any of the "Iceberg Family" so we've added one more! 4 x 3
ft Z6 ***
Gros Choux
d'Hollande (Centifolia/Bourbon, no date - very old) Light
pink flowers that
are some of the earliest to
bloom. It never ceases to
amaze with its "profusity" of blooms along every cane. Very
fragrant, vigorous and repeat
blooming! One out of all the thousands that we highly recommend
if you have the room. 5-7 x 5 ft, Z5
Memorial Day™ (WEKblunez) (Carruth
2004 PPAF)
Orchid pink petals with ruffled edges. Strong damask fragrance
and clean foliage. Few thorns. Loves the heat! 4 x 3 ft. Z6
All
Ablaze™
(WEKsamsou) (Carruth 2000 PP13107)
A Large-flowered Climber. Hardy vigorous and clean. Slight
spice fragrance. Don Juan is the seed
parent. Not consistent in tropical climates, but does well in all
others. 8-12 ft, Z5
Don Juan (Maladrone 1958)Dark velvety-red
large fragrant flowers on
large glossy dark green foliage. Every romantic's dream rose. Good
enough to eat. In fact, we bought
the stock plant after tasting jam made with the
petals! Good repeat flowering all season long (New
Dawn is in its parentage). Disease resistant and tolerant of hot
and
humid weather, hardy to zone 5. One of the best large-flowered red
climbers. Up to 3-10 ft, depending on climate.
In
the Mood™ WEKfrancoly - PPAF
Caruth 2007 Vivid red,
excellent form and color stay with moderate fragrance. Great for cutting, one that Tracy
says makes him smile every time he sees it in the garden. 4 x 3 ft
Lasting

(Commandant
Cousteau® - Adam 1993 PPAF) Dark dusky
red and very fragrant in the realm of Mister Lincoln. Less mauve
and more red in milder climates. Very glossy leaves with burgundy new
growth. 4 x 2 ft Z7
Mister
Lincoln (Swim & Weeks 1964)
Dark red, very fragrant, AARS
1965, 35 petals, 8.3 garden rating. Continuous blooming child of
Chrysler Imperial. There always seems
to be debate on whether the child out performs the parent. 4 x 3 ft.
Burgundy
Iceberg™ (PROsez - Weatherly 2003 PPAF) Floribunda, dark
red/mauve/burgundy,
fragrant, disease
resistant, nearly thornless with burgundy stamens! 4 x 3 ft, Z6 ***
Fisherman's
Friend (AUSchild - Austin 1988) Very large full flower of deep
crimson/magenta - a
very difficult flower to capture on film as every time I look at it
it's a different shade. The most fruity
fragrant Austin we carry. Mid-green foliage. OK in a big pot. 4 x
3 ft.
Rose de Rescht
(unknown) Fuchsia pink to magenta flowers are rosette
shaped opening to nearly pompon. Very fragrant repeating flowers
amidst a lot of mid-green foliage. Tolerant of poor soil, some shade
and even a large pot. A Damask/Portland rose. 4 x 2 ft.
Wild Blue Yonder™
(WEKisosblip - Carruth 2006 PPAF) This AARS winner for
2006
is a real stand out. Ruffled red-purple with a lighter
lavender eye. Strong fragrance, clean leaves and vigorous growth.
Even deeper colors in cooler temps. 5 x 3 ft.
Fragrant Lavender
Simplicity® JACshlav - PPAF Shrub, lavender, very fragrant,
disease resistant. The quintessential hedge rose. 4+ x 3 ft
Neptune
(WEKhilpurnil - Carruth 2004 PPAF)
Lavender with purple on the petal edges. A large flower with
large sweet rose fragrance (What would you expect from a cross of [Blueberry
Hill x Stephens'
Big Purple] x Blue
Nile?) Good vigor, 5 x 3 ft, Z6
Stainless
Steel™ (WEKblusi) (Carruth 1997 PP10188)
This was bred to be the "everyday" version of Sterling Silver.
Easy care, easy to grow, not fussy, etc. Strong fragrance, long
strong stems, good form for show. Dark green leaves with silvery
lavender flowers which show best color in cooler temps. 4+ x 3 ft.
Ebb
Tide™
(WEKsmopur - Carruth 2006) Smoky deep plum purple. I put
this in an arrangement at the rose
show and people were trailing behind me as I carried it in wanting to
know what the rose of unbelievably dark purple was. We think this
rivals some of the older Gallicas (and perhaps may surpass them since
it blooms all season long with large clove fragrant flowers). 4 x
3 ft.
Midnight
Blue™
(WEKfabpur - Carruth 2004 PPAF) Dark deep purple with rich clove
fragrance. We had a waiting list for this one
before we'd even
advertised we would carry it in our new Weeks line of rose
varieties! It's a color like no other modern rose.
Highlighted with golden stamens and bright green
leaves. PPAF, A compact 3 x 3 ft.
Night Owl™
(WEKpurosot -
PPAF Carruth 2005) Climber, mauve/wine purple, fragrant, very
disease resistant, vigorous, 10-14 ft ***
Be-Bop™
(WEKsacsoul) (Carruth 2004 PPAF) Single cerise red with
bright yellow eye flowers in clusters on a medium sized and somewhat
spreading bush. Glossy leaves leads to good disease resistance.
4+ x 5 ft
Camille
Pisarro™ (Delbard
1996) Boy
does this one have a story. Years ago
I took
a watercolor class and asked some rose lovers about books that included
watercolors of roses. Diary
of a Rose Lover was recommended and since reading it the search
began to get the roses painted in the book. The frustration
mounted as we found the roses were hybridized in southern California,
but were not offered for sale anywhere in the USA! After
importing a few we are thrilled to be able to offer this vigorous one
of Delbard's Master Painter series. Yellow, striped with
pink/red, changing as in the age progression below. Very
floriforous and fragrant too. Disease
resistant. How happy it makes me to see it in our variety
list! Unfortunately we are not licensed to ship any Delbard roses
outside of the U.S. 4 x 3 ft.

Citrus Splash
JACzorba
2007 - PPAF Shrub, yellow, orange and pink stripes, fruity fragrance,
4+
x 3 ft
Desert Glow (Della Balfour, Royal Pageant) (Harkness 1994)
Shrub/Large-flowered
Climber, apricot blend. Always remarked on by visitors. 10 x 5 ft, Z5
Distant Drums (Buck
1985)
Famous for its very unusual
mauve and tan blend. As with these types of colors, weather does
make a difference and it can bloom more in the pink to lavender range
depending on the sun. Good healthy foliage with strong myrrh
fragrance, 3 x 3 ft, Z4/5.
Double
Delight (1977)
I haven't met a
person yet who doesn't comment on
this wonderful rose. Its intense citrus fragrance can be picked out of
a bouquet of many different fragrant
roses and the bush seems to always have a bud or flower on it. Here in
our temperate zone we usually
have a few on the Christmas table and it seems so appropriate in its
candycane colors of red/pink and
creamy white. It's the product of excellent parentage: Granada x Garden
Party, and has passed on good genes too: Mon
Cheri. 30-35 petals, 8.4 rating. 4 x 2
ft.
Felicia (Pemberton
1928) One of the best Hybrid Musks around. The fully
double medium pink blooms have orange shadings toward the center. The
large flouncy, moderately
fragrant flowers display against dark green foliage. With yearly
pruning it will hold its shape quite
well. Suitable for a hedge or even a large pot. 4 x 4 ft.
Flutterbye™
(WEKplasol - Carruth 1996 PP9715) Masses of single
multicolored
yellow, coral, tangerine and pink clusters on this tall Shrub or pillar
rose/Climber (the latter in mild climates). Spicy fragrance with
very glossy leaves. Highly disease resistant. The shape benefits
from light pruning. 6-10 ft.
George
Burns WEKcalroc - Carruth 1998 PP#10334
The sun brings out the red and pink stripes on the yellow and cream
flowers. A rose that is sure to make you smile, and the real
George Burns wouldn't have had it any other way. Strong and
fruity fragrance which was most likely Gracie's idea to cover up
George's
cigar smoke! 3 x 3 ft, Z6
Geranium
Red
(1947) Wow, what a wonderfully fragrant rose. The only
thing I figure that went wrong in its popularity is that it had the
"old rose look" in a day when the high-centered
Hybrid Tea was "in". The color is also a most unusual Oriental
Lacquerware orange-red that will take
special planning for the color-coordinated gardener. We encountered
this rose for the first time blooming
in the San Jose Heritage Rose Garden and got permission to propagate it
to get it back into commerce. It's a keeper if fragrance and rebloom
are important. 3 x 2 ft.
Honey Dijon
(WEKsproulses - Sproul 2005
PPAF) Just as the name says, but even deeper in cooler
climates. This unique warm golden brown is vigorous and
floriferous. Very fragrant too. 5 x 3 ft.
Hot
Cocoa™
(WEKpaltlez - Carruth 2003)
No other rose of this color on the market. Described as smoky
chocolate orange. Depending on your weather it may be more
chocolate or more orange too! One of our best disease resistant
varieties and the
flowers have a moderate old rose fragrance. We have lots this
year so no one should be disappointed. 4 x 3 ft, Z5/6
Lime
Sublime™
(DICappeal - Dickson PPAF) Creamy
pastel chartreuse. One that stands out as it stands up in the
heat and humidity or in the milder northern climates. Slight
fragrance. Floriferous, dark green glossy leaves. 4 x 3 ft.
Octoberfest
(McGredy
1999, PPAF)
Wild blend of autumn colors: orange, yellow and red. Glossy green
foliage and large flowers. Always one of those bushes that causes
visitors to ask the variety name. A very reliable long stemmed bloomer
which is popular at our cut flower stall at the Farmer's Market.
4 x 2 ft.
Oranges 'n' Lemons MACoranlem - McGredy 1995 PP#9191
Outstanding
yellow and
orange striped flowers billowing all over a plant of dark glossy
disease resistant leaves. In the landscape this plant screams
"Look at me!" Tall canes can be trained as a small climber in
mild climates, or used as a stand alone fountain-like shrub. 6-8
ft, Z4
Strike It Rich
(WEKbepmey
- Carruth 2007 PPAF)
Grandiflora,yellow/orange/pink blend, very fragrant, disease resistant.
A big winner with the All-American Rose Selection (AARS) 2007.
6 x 3 ft Z5 ***
Watercolors™
WEKclaflabo PPAF Carruth 2008 Shrub,
yellow/pink blend single flowers with a light apple fragrance.
Very disease
resistant, 3
x 4 ft. You can certainly see the Be-Bop parentage here and I'm
impressed that our photos are a pretty close match to the hybridizer's
(minus the spider, of course). What starts off as a yellow blend
turns pink and then ends in the cerise family - similar to that more
tender China rose, Mutabilis. Z5/6
